This game is 100% mental!

Yogi Berra once said, "Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical." The same can be said about golf.

You don't need a masters in psychology to keep your mental game in shape. Perhaps the following tips and observations will help make your game a little saner.

  • One shot at a time.

How often have you let a bad shot affect your concentration on the next shot, or the next few holes for that matter? Remember, you cannot do anything about that bad shot now – it's history, so let it go.

  • Laugh when you hit a bad shot.

You will often see pros smile when they hit an errant shot. Are they laughing because they have a sick sense of humour? No, they're laughing to help stay relaxed and keep a positive mental attitude. They play for much bigger stakes than our weekend game, so if they can laugh at their mistakes, why can't we?
