This game is 100% mental!

  • Develop a successful pre-shot routine (and stick with it). Nothing keeps you focused on the shot at hand like a pre-shot routine. Whether you are standing over the driver, fairway iron, wedge or putter, you should develop and keep to a set routine. Everyone is different, so find that routine that gets you aimed correctly, in a positive mindset and, most importantly, focused on your immediate objective – this shot.
  • Prepare physically for a good mindset. If you stop to think about it, you'll probably realize that your worst games happen when you have not had enough sleep, exercise or the proper diet. It's not because you're not able to swing as well, but because you lose the ability to fully concentrate and, if you're really tired, stay positive.
  • Play your game. So what if your playing partner has power. Your partner is not you. In fact, no one has a game exactly like you. So, why on earth would you try to emulate someone else's game? This will only make a complicated game more complex, so the only challenge is to find YOUR game and stick to it. Let your partner hit the ball a million miles – out of bounds – while you keep it 250 yards down the middle.
